How is CSH different from a basic homeless shelter?

The Prophetic Foundation Inc.  leverages the resources of the home-building community and with the support of our corporate partners, donors and volunteers to conduct major renovations on homes to provide safe, stable, and new living arrangements for previously homeless individuals and families living day to day in temporary shelters to be able to live in a community sharing homes (CSH) for up to 1-3 years rent free.

Community sharing homes are temporary residences of desperation for homeless people which seek to protect vulnerable populations from the often devastating effects of homelessness while simultaneously reducing the environmental impact on the community.

2-1-1 VIRGINIA provides information and referral for:

 

  • Basic human needs: Food banks, shelters, rent or utility assistance

  • Physical and mental health resources

  • Work initiatives: Job training, English as a second language classes, GED preparation, financial and transportation assistance

  • Support for seniors and those with disabilities: 
    Adult day care, meals at home, respite care, home healthcare

  • Support for children, youth and families: After-school programs, tutoring, mentorship programs, counseling, child care centers

  • Volunteering in your community: Mentorship opportunities, locations to donate food, clothing, furniture, computers or other items

  • Disaster support services: Up-to-date information on community and regional response, volunteer and donation coordination, crisis intervention and human service coordination Click here

Our Community sharing homes are men's only or women's only dwelling.

 

How to get accepted to live at one of our community sharing homes.  (CSH) when available.

 

  • The applicant must be a registered at a local homeless shelter or recomended by a local church in the community.  (Apply direct to our ministry)  

  • When visiting the Homeless shelters, homeless victims should ask about other available housing options.

In most shelters, minors and elderly take priority over other homeless individuals.

 

Benefits Includes at our community sharing homes:

  • No  rent or mortage to pay     

  • Shared utility expense by all occupants         

  • No home maintenance       

  • Use address of property as your home address       

  • Video security surveillance monitoring of property       

  • We assist with acquiring donated house hold goods such as clothing, appliance and furniture.        

  • In home assistance referal to health care consulting and more       

  • Live up to 1 year then transition into your own place.

 

What you need to know!      

  • Who qualify? You must be willing to live in a shared home with other families      

  • How much space does each person get? Each home has separate room and private security which is assigned to a family.        

  • Who live in the property? Each home are men only or women only

 

How to qualify?

Unfortunately we have a very selective process where we only review candidates that have extreme conditions living day to day in temporary shelters. 

 

Based on the following guidelines.

(a) Candidate must be willing to work (Active employment)

(b) No violence, drugs abuse, or criminal record

(c) Must be willing to share home resources (kitchen, living space, study, and bath rooms)
